Professional Development Support

  1. Travel funds. Each full-time faculty member has $525 per year for travel funds. Requests for reimbursement should be made to Jan Ramsey in the DOC Office. Receipts are needed for any reimbursements. (See Faculty Handbook, IV.K.4.)

  2. Professional Development Committee. Apply to the Professional Development Committee for funds for research projects and travel grants. Deadlines are April 1 and September 15 for fall semester, November 1 for spring semester, and February 15 for summer grants. Late applications are accepted but may not be funded if insufficient funds. In addition, the Professional Development Committee oversees Katherine Graves Davidson Grants and Charlotte Stern Grants.   3. Department Speakers Fund. Apply to the Campus Events Committee for funding to bring speakers to campus to address a class or classes. Amounts normally range from $50 to $500. (See Faculty Handbook, IV.L.2.e.)

  4. The Borker Prize is awarded annually to faculty for curriculum development work related to Women’s Studies. Due about February 1. Notice will be sent.

  5. Mednick Awards are given annually from the VFIC for a research project for faculty. Due about February 1.  Notice will be sent.

  6. Summer technology grants. Apply to the Academic IT Committee. The notice for applications usually occurs in March.

  7. Outside grants. Contact Naomi Amos, Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations for assistance with obtaining outside grants.   8. Teaching-related opportunities and needs. If you wish funding to travel to reaching-related conferences, contact the Faculty Development Coordinator.

  9. Summer student/faculty research funds.  Due approximately February 7 Notice will be sent.

  10. Student entertainment.  The Dean of the College has funds (up to $50/year) for faculty to entertain students in their classes.  Please contact Jan Ramsey.

  11. Academic Development Support. The Dean of the College has a limited Academic Development Support budget that is designed to respond to the needs of the faculty. Please let me know if you have requests that do not fit into other funding sources.
