Daoist Symbols
and Their Meanings

Symbol for dao.  Literally 
it means "the way." 

Lao-Tzi, the founder of Daoism
and writer of the Daodejing.

 

Symbol for wu.  The small 
character is the easier version
of the symbol for Wu. 

Symbol for wei.  The wu-wei
is one of the main concepts from
Daoism.  Wu-Wei means to achieve    action through minimal action.

 
 

Symbol for Yin. Yin represents 
principles that are negative such
as sadness, darkness, and evil.  Also,
it is the sybmol for the female.

Symbol for Yang.  Yang represents
principles that are positive such as happiness, light and good.  Also, it is
the symbol for the male.
