Common Threads
You are invited to attend the meetings called Common Threads. Common Threads, organized on September 22, 1999, was formed in response to students who expressed a desire for a social group where they could be instructed in or share handicraft skills, such as sewing, quilting, and other forms of needlework. The skills taught may be as simple as sewing on a button or hemming a dress to designing a community quilt. Membership is open to anyone in the college community.
Meetings will be held every other week on Mondays, from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., in Lipscomb Library. Most of our meetings are held in the Robert C. Watts Rare Book Room on the fifth floor. Please use the elevator or the stairs near the elevator. Occasionally, we meet in the Lininger Children's Literature Browsing Room. Please use the stairs in the Current Periodical Room and walk up to the fifth floor.

The World AIDS Day Committee asked Common Threads to construct a tapestry to be hung in the Student Center every year on December 1st. The appliqué was completed for World AIDS Day 2000. Currently, Common Threads members are quilting the tapestry.
The tapestry has a rainbow in the background with a large tree in front. The leaves of the tree represent spring, summer, and autumn. We will leave some tree branches bare to symbolize winter. We thank the Dean of Students Office for providing funds for the supplies we needed to construct the tapestry.
