Frances E. Webb
I enjoy my work as a Reference Librarian at Lipscomb Library. In this capacity, I assist students with their research, teach bibliographic instruction classes, work with the Library's special collections, and keep the Library web site up to date.
I also enjoy working with students in a more formal classroom setting. Beginning in the 2008 Fall Semester, I resumed teaching ISt 141, "Library Research," which I had previously taught from 1981 until 1992.
I am thrilled to continue teaching in the American Culture Program during the 2011 Spring Semester. This will be my sixth opportunity. In 1998, 2006, and 2007 I co-taught AmCP 322, "American Culture Seminar." In 2010, I co-taught AmCP 272, "American Images" with Prof. Julio Rodriguez, as I did in 2009. An enormously rewarding experience, I encourage all students to consider applying to the program.
During the spring semester, I usually teach American Folklore and Folklife, an introductory course where students learn about the folklore of various groups in the United States. Because of my participation in the American Culture Program, this course will not be offered during the 2010-2011 academic year.
In the past, Professor Elizabeth Lipscomb and I taught a first-year writing course, Pearl S. Buck Online, which combined instruction in literature and writing with instruction in information technology. The course was taught in conjunction with Professor Liu Haiping (1997 and 2000) and Professor Xiao Suozhang (1998 and 1999) in the Department of Foreign Studies at Nanjing University in China. Since Prof. Lipscomb retired in May, 2001, the course has not been offered.
