Ken directs and designs lighting and sometimes scenery or costumes for Randolph College Wildcat Theatre productions and is Artistic Director/Producer for the production program.  He serves as Lighting Designer and Production Manager for the Dance Department's annual Spring Dance concerts and has served as design and technical consultant for the biennial Greek Play.

Productions
In the fall of 2007 Ken directed Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors to rave reviews after directing two shows the previous year, Wendy Wasserstein's Uncommon Women and Others and Kindertransport by Diane Samuels.  In the spring of '09 he directed Seeing Purple, a new play by colleague, James Peterson.  Other directing credits include Tartuffe by Moliere, Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Ken has designed for theatre, dance, and opera, most notably the world premiere of Frederick Rjewski’s Triumph of Death in the modular theatre at CalArts, and the Tennessee premiere of Inherit the Wind.  Locally, he has designed for the Black Theatre Ensemble and the Academy of Fine Arts downtown, and over twenty productions at Randolph. Recent work includes:  The Rocky Horror Show, Living Out, Machinal, The Robber Bridegroom, The Rimers of Eldritch, As You Like It, The Children's Hour, and the Greek Play stock set used in the Classics Department's productions of The Bacchae and The Clouds.

He was onstage most recently as Major Bouvier in the Wolfbane production of Grey Gardens, as Adam/Martext in As You Like It at the Renaissance Theatre, and has appeared in a number of video productions locally.  In the summer of 2008 he took a turn as Friar Laurance in Romeo & Juliet and originated the role of Jared in The Bluest Water with the Endstation Theatre Company's Blue Ridge Summer Theatre Festival, a role he returned to the following season.

At Randolph he has appeared most recently as King Berenger in Exit the King, and as Derek in the R-MWC production of Caryl Churchill's Blue Kettle, and Mark, the title character in The Falling Man by Jim Peterson.      Press release for The Falling Man

His classes include Directing, Lighting Design, Design Studio, Design Portfolio, Sound Design, History of Theatre and the Senior Project.  He is one of a team of faculty that meets with the BFA Colloquium and mentors students in that program. He has worked with students on summer research projects building virtual models of historic theatres and animations and visualizations of design concepts.

Ken led a Theatre study group to London and to Edinburgh, Scotland, for the Fringe Festival in the summer of 2006.  In 2004 he led a group to Italy to see the Teatro Olimpico and other historic theatres in Fiesole, Verona, and Sabbionetta, and to Barcelona, Spain.  He is currently planning the Department's next International Studies adventure, slated for the summer of 2011; visiting London and Dublin.

In addition to serving as webmaster for Wildcat Theatre and publishing the department's e-newsletter, the Wildcat Theatre News,, he is developing two websites in association with the Arts organizations in town, Artslynchburg.net, and a companion site, LynchbrgTickets.com, both intended to increase the visibility of the Arts and Artists in the area and expand the Arts in Lynchburg. As an outgrowth of that work he was elected to the Board of Directors of the James River Council for the Arts & Humanities.  [Leaders Establish Arts Council in Lynchbubrg]

He firmly believes that the process of creating theatre is instructive for engagement in all walks of life.
