Concert attendance policy

The following wording appears on the syllabi for all courses offered in the music department:

To encourage and increase musical awareness among music students, there is a concert attendance requirement for this course.
Declared Music Majors and Minors are required to attend at least 4 music events from the Semester Concert List.
All other music students are required to attend at least 3 events from the Semester Concert List
The concerts attended must include at least one of the events marked in bold on the list. Events not included on this list may also be accepted as part of your attendance requirement at the discretion of the instructor.
You are also required to write a review (350-400 words) on one of the events attended.  The review may include your reactions to the works performed as well as to the performers.  List all events attended at the top of the review.  The review is due on the last day of classes. Failure to submit this review may adversely affect your grade.

Each instructor in the music department may exercise his or her individual discretion regarding the inclusion of this paper in the final grade average for the course. Please refer to the specific syllabus for each course for information regarding grading. Students enrolled in multiple music courses may submit the same concert review and list of concerts attended for all classes.

A student performing in the listed events may count only one event in which s/he performs toward the attendance requirement. Students who are performing in at least one-half of a total program (senior recital, Chorale concert, etc.) may not count these performances toward the concert attendance requirement.

Students are encouraged to attend concerts at Randolph College as well as those at other area institutions. All performances listed on the semester concert list are held in The Wimberly Recital Hall at Randolph College unless otherwise noted.
