News and Notes

  • Brynne Gingras '11 is spending the summer of 2008 as Operations Intern with the Opera Company of North Carolina, working with their Operations Manager, Amanda Ely '07.
  • Congratulations to pianist Lily Tang '10, who won third prize (honorable mention) in the Collegiate Division of the Harold D. Protsman Classical Period Piano Competition, held on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Old Dominion University.
  • Soprano Jolie Benham '10 earned a rating of Excellent at the Virginia District Spring Conference and Adjudications for the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), held March 1 and 2, 2008.
  • The Randolph College Department of Music welcomed the delivery of a new Steinway Model D (nine-foot grand piano) to the stage of The Wimberly Recital Hall on May 2, 2006. The dedicatory concert for this instrument took place on Thursday, October 5, 2006, at 8:00 PM, with a recital by Guest Artist Vanessa Perez, piano.
  • Congratulations to Amanda Ely '07, the 2006 recipient of the Donald P. Baiocchi-Lyric Opera Internship!

     

    Amanda received a $5000 stipend to complete a ten-week internship in the Development Department of the Lyric Opera of Chicago in the summer of 2006, through the generosity of Amanda Fox ’67 and her husband Matthew Fox.

  • Pianist Olya Chervatyuk ’08 competed in the 2006 Margaret A. Guthman Keyboard Competition, held February 17 and 18 at Georgia Tech. She also competed in the Collegiate Division of the 2006 Old Dominion University Classical Period Piano Competition on March 18, where she earned an honorable mention (3rd prize).

  • Three music students competed at the Virginia District Spring Conference and Adjudications for the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) on March 3 and 4, 2006, at Shenandoah Conservatory.  Shannon Gomes ’06, soprano, and Anna Womble ’06, soprano, both earned Excellent ratings.

    Soprano Megan Steigerwald ’09 earned Honors (a Superior rating), and was invited to compete at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference at Meredith College on April 7 and 8.
