Dependent t-test | Due March 1
Problems 15 & 19 from Set II in Chapter 7.
SPSS | ||
Most of you remember the Stroop test from
Introduction to Psychology. In that task participants are asked to type the
names of colors as quickly as they can under three conditions. In the two
control conditions they type the name of a color square (patchtyp) and the
color of the letters for color names when the colors match the names (nametypi).
In the experimental or Stroop condition the participants type the color of
the letters which do not match the names (stroopty). For this assignment you
should determine if the Stroop condition took longer to type than the other
two conditions. Use the Stroop data
file for these analyses. (Clicking on the link at the left will allow
you to download that file. You will need to save the file to your disk and
then use SPSS to open it.) You should conduct two dependent samples t-tests
to compare the Stroop condition typing time to the typing time in the two
control conditions. Use the SPSS output to calculate the effect size for
these two tests. Please summarize the results and present them so that
someone who is knowledgeable about general psychology will understand what
happened in this experiment.
