About the McGraw-Hill Sol y viento Websites

Our Sol y viento program is supported by two websites, one where you can practice pronouncing the words in the text and in general find supporting materials for the textbook. The other site is the one you'll use to do the on-line Woorkbook/Manual exercises. You can reach both websites by clicking on links in our syllabus. I have also put links to both sites on our Dokeos (=My Courses) Page and also on the main page for our course that is on my personal website, as well as at the bottom of this page. I encourage you to explore the resources available to you on the text support website. The on-line Workbook, or Manual, website is one you are expected to visit with regularity. I'll receive regular reports that tell me when each student has completed exercises in the on-line Manual. These exercises are corrected but not graded. I'll know which students have and have not done them. Students who do not do the exercises will have their grade lowered accordingly.

Information about the Sol y viento website for the on-line Workbook/Manual exercises.
The first time you visit this site you must create an account. Follow the instructions on the sheet I handed out in class to do this. All the information you need is on the sheet. Let me know if you have trouble creating an account or using this on-line Workbook/Manual. Doing these exercises constitutes 7.5% of you course grade. Your gradefor the on-line exercises depends exclusively on attempting the exercises, not on whether or not the exercises are correct. I should receive reports for the work you do on-line.

Information about the Sol y viento website for text support.
To enter the student portion of the site, click on Student Edition (lower left on first page of the site).
On the next screen, in the upper left, you'll see "Course-wide Content," and underneath that phrase there are three choices: (1) Interactive Verb Charts; (2) Flash Grammar Tutorials; and (3) Textbook Audio. I'll say a few words about each of these, beginning with the "Textbook Audio."

Textbook Audio. Click here to hear the vocabulary pronounced. For example, part of our first assignment is to practice pronouncing the vocabulary on page 2 of the textbook. So under "Lección preliminar" click on "Vocabulario: Primera parte," and you'll hear the words on page 2 of our text pronounced. Repeat after the speaker and try to imitate his/her pronunciation. Be especially careful not to "round" or "reduce" your pronunciation of the vowels in Spanish (rounding and reducing are explained on page 3 of your Manual de Actividades).

Interactive Verb Charts. I encourage you to explore this resource. It is available to all students, even if you do not have an access code, something that comes with the purchase of a brand new textbook.

Flash Grammar Tutorials. I also encourage you to explore this resource. It is an on-line grammar you may find very helpful. The Flash Grammar Tutorials are considered "premium" content by McGraw-Hill. This means that you must have a student access code to use them. If you bought a brand new book you have an access code that you can use. If you bought a used book you do not have an access code, but you can buy one (for $11 the last time I looked) which will allow you to use the Flash Grammar Tutorials. I would encourage you to consider doing this. There are interactive practice exercises and also grammar explanations of specific points covered in the Sol y viento program. If you do not have an access code, I would encourage you to check out these tutorials with a student who has an access code to decide whether or not you think they would be helpful to you.
