GALAXY CLUSTERS
HCG87 | A beautiful cluster of four galaxies known as Hickson Compact Group 87 imaged by the Hubble Telescope. |
Hydra Cluster | The Hydra Cluster contains more than 100 galaxies. The cluster is about 10 million LY across and is also known as Abell 1060. |
Coma Cluster | The Coma galaxy cluster contains thousands of galaxies. |
Seyfert's Sextet | This Hubble Telescope image taken on June 26, 2000 shows a group of galaxies called Seyfert's Sextet. The galaxies in Seyfert's Sextet are about 190 million light years away in the constellation Serpens, and they are interacting gravitationally. They occupy a 100,000 light year diameter region, about the same diameter as the Milky Way! (The small face-on spiral that seems to be part of the group is actually a background galaxy five times further away than the relatively nearby grouping.) |
Abell SO740 | Hubble telescope image of a galaxy cluster about 450 million light years away. It includes a prominent elliptical galaxy. |
