& A General Information about the Campus High Priority Energy: Status: Look at records provided by Angela Hefner. Water: Status: See the water filtration plant, check out the Pedlar River Reservoir, and check irrigation meters on campus, look up the numbers for cost and gallons. 1. Where does RMWC’s water supply originate? The city of Lynchburg gets the majority of its water from a reservoir in Amherst County. The alternate source is water pumped from the James River. 2. Are water-supply issues a concern in your region? (Yes No) Yes, in the surrounding area, but Lynchburg has not had that problem because of the Pedlar River reservoir 3. Where is campus water treated? At the water filtration plant on Park Street. 4. How many total gallons of water did our school consume last year? *look at records* 5. How many gallons did our school consume: per square foot of building space? per capita? *look at records* 6. Has the figure from question 4 changed over the past five years? Yes, it has increased. *By how much?* 7. What percentage of water is used indoors versus outdoors? *Check the irrigation system meters.* There is no gray water on campus. 8. How does RMWC manage its outdoor water? There are controls in the buildings and grounds facilities as well as water moisture sensors and timers to water the grounds. 9. What were the water utility costs for the university for the last academic year? 141,000 ?? *Confirm this* 10. How have these costs changed over the past five years and why? We only have the records of the last four years. *fill in what they tell us* 11. Have there been any campus conservation programming within the last year? If so are there any estimates of water savings as a result of the programs? Water saving shower heads have been installed. A trial run of a toilet that allows a .8 or 1.8 gallon flush is going to be made next year in the psychology building. No estimated savings.
Solid Waste: Status: Set up an appointment with B.J. Litchford at BFI (845-6800) for an interview and find invoices (check with Angela Hefner) (be sure to look up numbers before you go) Purchasing: Status: look up the meter records on copiers, look at the meters on the lab computers, look into how much our bills from Mr. Speedy are, follow up to see the copier numbers for 2003-2004, find where our wood comes from (if it is local, who is our supplier, etc.) Environmental Education and Literacy: Status: Talk to Karin Warren, Environmental Studies Department Waste Water and Storm Water Run Off: Status: Contact City of Lynchburg wastewater treatment plant and ask Angela Hefner about the fine for the Dinning hall waste water. Add a section on Building Design and Renovations (Use of Green Building Technologies)? Secondary Priority Hazardous Waste: Status: Look up Clean Harbors Environmental Services (can be found at cleanharbors.com) Pesticides: Status: Make an appointment with Mark Gilbert and Payton Thomas to answer for sure.
